Dean Stockdale is an acclaimed jazz pianist, arranger and composer based in the North of England, widely respected for his refined touch, deep swing and lyrical musicality. As a bandleader, he performs extensively across the UK with his quartet and collaborates regularly with many of the leading figures in British jazz. His playing is shaped by the great piano traditions of Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Gene Harris and Mulgrew Miller.
In constant demand, Dean works not only with his own trio and quartet but also as a featured pianist for touring jazz artists, a sought-after accompanist for vocalists, and a highly regarded teacher and session musician. He has released two trio albums: Origin and Promise the Moon, which received national airplay on BBC Radio 3, Jazz FM and received positive reviews.
His most recent release, Celebrating Oscar, presents bold new quartet arrangements of Oscar Peterson’s lesser-known compositions alongside fresh interpretations of music closely associated with the legendary pianist. The album was followed by an extensive UK tour and international performances in Belgium, France and Ireland, and featured performances at prestigious jazz clubs across including Toulouse Lautrec, Crazy Coqs, Hampstead Jazz Club, Buxton Festival, Scarborough Jazz Festival and the 606.
