Self-proclaimed showgirl Rivkala – along with her esteemed 6-piece band – blends jazz, soul, funk, and klezmer to build the twisted world of the Crushed Velvet cabaret bar, where she delivers biting yet playful social commentaries.
The Mancunian singer-songwriter has made the North East her home over the past 7 years, running improvised jazz jams, playing MOBO Fringe and BBC Proms, whilst developing her sound to release her debut EP in 2025.
With a burlesque inspired stage presence and a definitive flair for the dramatic, she will have you crying, laughing and dancing within the space of even a few minutes.
Part of Jazz North’s Northern Line 2026 roster, and one of Youth Music’s ‘Ones to Watch 2026”, Rivkala is working on new music and gearing up for a list of UK dates – which include Durham Jazz Festival.
“With a striking stage presence that harks back to the grand age of cabaret she stands out from other post-Winehouse singer-songwriters, and her witty observational lyrics often draw on personal experience, highlighting the mundane injustices of everyday life.” – UK JAZZ News (Frank Graham)
“…the funkiest cabaret I’ve ever been invited to.” – Soweto Kinch, Round Midnight, BBC Radio 3
