Durham University Jazz Society will come together once again to produce its annual ‘Evening of Standards’, showcasing the highest quality of student musicians it has to offer – and this year’s will take place at Durham Jazz Festival.
The concert is tailored year-on-year to exhibit the best members, with a varied line up of instrumentation and repertoire, all in the setting of an intimate and relaxed ambience.
Over the years, Durham University Jazz Society has played the greats of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Charlie Parker, as well as giving its take on what it thinks should be a ‘standard’, with Kenny Wheeler, Emma Rawicz, and Jaco Pastorius.
Over the academic year, JazzSoc puts on a variety of gigs, in venues across the city including The Holy GrAle and Durham University Music Department.
