Cafédral, Durham is an independent café bar located in the heart of the city, known for its relaxed atmosphere and support of live music and community events. Just a short walk from Durham Cathedral and the city’s main cultural venues, it has become a popular meeting point for creatives, students and music lovers.

With its intimate performance space and informal setting, Cafédral offers the perfect environment for smaller jazz sets and pop up performances during Durham Jazz Festival. The venue encourages close interaction between musicians and audience, creating an authentic club style experience.

As part of the wider festival programme, Cafédral adds to the vibrant mix of spaces across the city, helping to bring live jazz into cafés, bars and social spaces throughout the weekend.

Direction

Cafédral is located at 1 Owengate, Durham, DH1 3HB, just below Durham Cathedral and a short walk from the Market Place in the heart of the city centre.

By Car (From the A1): Exit the A1 at Junction 62 and follow the A690 towards Durham City Centre. Continue over Milburngate Bridge and follow signs for the city centre. Use one of the nearby public car parks such as Prince Bishops Car Park or Walkergate Car Park. From there, it is a short walk up towards the Cathedral and along Owengate to reach Cafédral. Please note that Owengate is within Durham’s historic centre and vehicle access is restricted.

By Car (From the A167): Follow the A167 to Nevilles Cross and turn onto the A690 towards Durham City Centre. Continue over Milburngate Bridge and follow signs for the centre. Park in a nearby city centre car park and walk up towards the Cathedral and Owengate.

By Bus: Durham Bus Station on North Road is approximately 8 to 10 minutes’ walk from Cafédral. Exit the bus station and walk towards the Market Place, then follow signs towards Durham Cathedral. Owengate runs alongside the Cathedral, and Cafédral is located near the top of the street.

By Train: Durham Station is around 10 to 12 minutes’ walk from Cafédral. Leave the station and walk down North Road into the city centre, continue through the Market Place and follow signs for Durham Cathedral. Owengate sits just beside the Cathedral, where Cafédral is located.
