Durham Jazz Festival Gallery – Price Bishops Place

Durham Jazz Festival Gallery

Venue Details

Durham Jazz Festival Gallery is a dedicated pop up exhibition space located at Unit 25, High Street, Prince Bishops Centre, Durham, created as part of the wider Durham Jazz Festival programme. Positioned in the heart of the city centre, the gallery offers visitors a chance to experience the visual side of jazz culture alongside the live music performances taking place across the festival weekend.

The gallery showcases The Space Between the Notes, a striking collection of live music photography by award winning Durham photographer John Lyons. Known for capturing the emotion, intensity and intimacy of live performance, John’s work focuses on the connection between musicians, audience and atmosphere, documenting artists in the moment rather than simply recording an event.

The exhibition features a collection of powerful jazz images gathered from clubs, concert halls and iconic venues in both the UK and New York, including Birdland and the Blue Note Jazz Club. The Durham exhibition has been specially updated to include a number of artists performing at the festival itself, creating a unique visual companion to the live programme.

With free entry throughout the festival period, Durham Jazz Festival Gallery adds another dimension to the festival experience, celebrating not only the sound of jazz, but also the artistry, emotion and culture that surround it.

Direction

Unit 25 is located on High Street in Durham City Centre, just off the Market Place and within the heart of Durham’s historic shopping and cultural district.

By Car (From the A1): Exit the A1 at Junction 62 and follow the A690 towards Durham City Centre. Continue over Milburngate Bridge and follow signs for the city centre. By Train: Durham Station is around 10 minutes’ walk from Unit 25. Leave the station and walk down North Road into the city centre, continue through the Market Place and onto High Street.
